Vlachs in Serbia according to the results of the 2011 census

Abstract

Because of the authentic cultural heritage and ethnic origin, which is unsolved to this day, and also specific demographic development, the study of the Vlachs in Serbia is a challenging topic of interest to various types of scientists. This work includes the basic demographic characteristics of the Vlach population in the Republic of Serbia is based on the results of the last census in 2011. Given that the census data was based on the principle of national self-determination of subjective criteria, it was possible only to scientifically observe the nationally declared Vlach population, in other words population that consideres themselves Vlach. In this way the dynamic changes of the Vlach population, their number, territorial distribution and representation in Serbia were shown, as well as their age and gender structure. In order to obtain a more objective picture of Vlach population, according to their ethnicity, the analysis included census data of population whose native language is Vlach.

Zbog autentičnog kulturnog nasleđa i do danas nerasvetljenog etničkog porekla, ali i specifičnog demografskog razvitka, proučavanje Vlaha u Srbiji predstavlja izazovnu temu interesovanja naučnika raznih profila. Ovim radom sagledane su osnovne demografske karakteristike vlaškog stanovništva u Republici Srbiji izvedene na osnovu rezultata poslednjeg popisa sprovedenog 2011. godine. S obzirom da se popisni podaci zasnivaju na načelu subjektivnog kriterijuma nacionalnog opredeljenja, nametnuta je mogućnost da se naučno posmatra samo nacionalno deklarisano vlaško stanovništvo, odnosno stanovništvo koje sebe smatra Vlasima. Na taj način prikazane su dinamičke promene vlaške populacije, broj, teritorijalni razmeštaj i zastupljenost vlaškog stanovništva na prostoru Srbije, kao i njihova starosno-polna struktura. U cilju dobijanja objektivnije slike vlaškog stanovništva prema njihovoj etničkoj pripadnosti, analizom su obuhvaćeni i popisni podaci o stanovništvu vlaškog maternjeg jezika.
