Balkans as the cultural subcontinent of Europe

Abstract

New world order and rearrangement of Europe transform the position of Balkan region -instead as the "crossroad" between East and West, it is more often included into the area of Western influence. In European relations developed "core" is gradually spreading toward "periphery" removing the traditional Balkan culture. The europeisation of Balkans and spreading of Western European civilization's circle gives the arguments that the term Balkans should be replaced with the term Southeastern Europe. The europeisation or balkanization is not geopolitical but civilization choice in front of all Balkan nations.

Novi svetski poredak i preuređenje Evrope, transformišu položaj balkanskog regiona - umesto "raskršća" između Istoka i Zapada, on sve više ulazi u perimetar ili polje uticaja Zapada. U evropskim relacijama razvijeni "centar" postepeno se širi ka "periferiji", i potiskuje tradicionalnu balkansku kulturu. Evropeizacija Balkana i širenje perimetra uticaja zapadnoevropskog civilizacijskog kruga sve više daje osnova da se termin Balkan zameni terminom Jugoistočna Evropa. Evropeizacija ili balkanizacija to nije više geopolitički, već civilizacijski izbor, pred koji su stavljeni svi balkanski narodi.
