AB - Integralan deo savremenog sistema zaštite prirode Srbije jeste i obavezujući element planskog uređenja zaštićenog prirodnog dobra.

AB - The role of seasonality in the sustainability of tourism is multiple and complex. The connection between seasonality and sustainability is even more complex when it comes to protected areas. This connection was investigated on the examples of selected protected mountain areas in Serbia ‒ Kopaonik and Tara National Parks, and Stara planina and Zlatibor Nature Parks. The Gini index was used to measure seasonality, and to show the imbalance in the monthly distribution of the number of tourist overnight stays in the mentioned destinations, in the period 2013‒2021. The research results show that the analyzed protected mountain areas in Serbia have different values of the Gini index, which is conditioned by their natural predispositions for tourism development (e.g. altitude and duration of snow cover), and at the same time the levels of tourist development of the area. In order to reduce the effects of seasonality, in each of the destinations that are the subject of this paper, alternative types of tourism and activities are implemented.

Primenom Q-gis softverskog alata i Corine Land Cover otvorene baze podatka biće analizirana namena zemljišta u rezervatima biosfere Golija-Studentica i Bačko Podunavlje u periodu od 1990. godine do 2018. godine.

AB - The territory of the Republic of Serbia is vulnerable to various natural disasters, among which forest fires stand out. In relation with climate changes, the number of forest fires in Serbia has been increasing from year to year. Protected natural areas are especially endangered by wildfires. For Nature Park Golija, as the second largest in Serbia, with an area of 75,183 ha, and with MaB Reserve Golija-Studenica on part of its territory (53,804 ha), more attention should be paid in terms of forest fire mitigation. GIS and multi-criteria decision analysis are indispensable when it comes to spatial analysis for the purpose of natural disaster risk management. Index-based and fuzzy AHP methods were used, together with TOPSIS method for forest fire susceptibility zonation. Very high and high forest fire susceptibility zone were recorded on 26.85% (Forest Fire Susceptibility Index) and 25.75% (fuzzy AHP). The additional support for forest fire prevention is realized through an additional Internet of Thing (IoT)-based sensor network that enables the continuous collection of local meteorological and environmental data, which enables low-cost and reliable real-time fire risk assessment and detection and the improved long-term and short-term forest fire susceptibility assessment. Obtained results can be applied for adequate forest fire risk management, improvement of the monitoring, and early warning systems in the Republic of Serbia, but are also important for relevant authorities at national, regional, and local level, which will be able to coordinate and intervene in a case of emergency events.

AB - This paper analyzes relations between population and conservation status of bird species that are affected by various threats, with a special emphasis on climate change on the example of the Important Bird Areas (IBAs) sites in Serbia. The special accent will be put on the analysis of the ability of the recently established IBA network in Serbia to continue representing suitable habitats as stepping-stones, especially for globally threatened species belonging to Serbian avifauna, which will be conducted using the relevant data on population status of species and projected climate change, with assistance of GIS tools. The results of this research could be used to update conservation status of target species and habitats in order to mitigate disturbing impacts through creation and implementation of conservation priorities.

AB - Geotourism is a relatively new form of tourism with considerable European and global growth potential. Interest in geotourism is developing at a very rapid rate around the world. It is of great importance to support and enhance the global movement about geotourism generally and specifically into geoparks. Geoparks are different to other forms of protected areas, such as national parks, nature reserves etc. In this paper focus of the research is on quantitative assessments of the exceptional values of geoheritage for the science, education and tourism potential use in the area of the potential Geopark Djerdap. Five selected geosites are relevant to evaluate key values for science, education, and tourism with additional consideration given to degradation risk. All the post-assessment findings aim to improve the focus on the ultimate goal of the study, i.e. to justify the synergy between the protection of natural values (geoconservation) and the corresponding activities in the process of managing the development of geotourism in the study area.

AB - The article analyzes the consequences of one century long human influences on vegetation of the wetland ecosystem, on the example of Pancevacki Rit in Belgrade, Serbia. The autochthonous, non-altered ecosystem was formed in the alluvial plain between Danube and Timis River in the formation of connected swamps and bogs with periodically flooded patches. The major transformation of the wetland ecosystem started with the construction of the embankment and dense canal system followed by settlements development, increasing of population density, intensification of agriculture activities etc. The study area transformation factors were identified in the first phase of research, while the second phase includes analyses of their influences on habitat conversion using GIS, with the purpose to preserve fragments of indigenous wetland vegetation, mostly fragile wetland meadows from further degradation.

AB - The transformation of autochthonous habitats and ecosystems, the spatial distribution of which overlaps the territory with developing urban settlements, leads to a permanent destruction of their ecological stability and biodiversity impoverishment. The processes of conversion and fragmentation of habitats are simultaneously following the spreading of spatial and functional urban areas, whereby it is often possible to secure the survival of remaining species and their communities only through legal protection. The existing ecological effects in the nature protection process have been analyzed on the example of the protected areas located on the territory of the City of Belgrade. At the same time, the goal of this paper includes the consideration of potentials that, together with the process of protection of natural values, can be valorized in the context of sustainable development and provision of ecosystem services due to the adequate management of protected areas.

AB - This paper proposes one new attempt to formulate a mathematical approach to climate parameters in the context of their complex implications for tourist activities through the tourism climate comfort index (TCCI). This paper also aims to formulate an original and optimal mathematical correlation between readily obtainable climate parameters (mean monthly air temperature, monthly amplitude of air temperatures, monthly insolation, average monthly relative air humidity and the number of rainy days), which results in values of the TCCI. Simultaneously, this index will provide the values correspondent to the values of air temperatures (degrees C), which represents a comparative baseline understandable equally for tourists, tourism planners and managers. The example of Serbia as a mainland country in the south-east of Europe was used to apply the proposed methodology. The spatial-temporal variability of TCCI is formulated on basis of data for the period 1961-2000 while for testing model was used selected period 2001-2010 on the sample of 26 meteorological stations distributed all around Serbia. For this purpose a standard statistical techniques were applied and ArcGIS software was used for analyze of the variability of the TCCI in relation to the altitude, which is of particular importance for the development of tourism in the mountains. Checking variability of the index was carried out in relation to statistical data about number of tourists on the three most visited tourist destinations which are of importance for the development of urban, mountain and spa tourism, the leading forms of tourism activities on the territory of Serbia. The obtained results correspond with the fact of the pronounced seasonality of tourism market and thus may represent a good basis for future tourism planning and management.

AB - The aim of this paper is to show the real impact of vegetation types on runoff, expressed by a mathematical model. Better understanding of this relationship may significantly contribute to the prevention of extreme natural processes that are more and more frequent in the world in recent years. Particular attention to this problem has been paid after the historic flooding that occurred in Serbia in May 2014, taking away many lives, property and starting up numerous erosive processes. In this work multiple linear regression was used to make an estimation of the mean annual, maximum and minimum river runoff in Serbia for the period of 1998-2009. The sample analyzed consisted of 40 small river basins with natural runoff and the independent variables used were mean annual precipitation, mean annual air temperature, basin altitude, the humidity index, basin area, average basin slope, and vegetation factors separated in 8 categories. It was shown that vegetation has an important role in runoff regulation and that it is justified to classify it particularly into three categories: forests, meadows and agriculture. A total of 33 models were formed with R-2 > 0.8 and runoff changes from 0.1% to 1% within 1% changes to vegetation, depending on type.

AB - Ecotourism can be defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and cultural heritage and improves the well-being of local people. Sustainable planning and management of ecotourism development are important and necessary for increasing positive and decreasing negative effects on the complex environment. This paper analyses the suitability of selected protected natural areas in the Serbian Danube region for the purposes of ecotourism development. The multi-criteria analysis includes several natural and socio-economic factors and criteria which influence ecotourism development. The integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) greatly facilitates the decision-making process in the ecotourism destination planning. A suitability map of the analysed protected natural areas for ecotourism development as one of the sustainable tourism types is highlighted as a result of this paper. Such analysis assists in the objective promotion of ecotourism destinations and thus contributes to the improvement of Serbian tourism development.

AB - The principal aim of this research was to determine the vulnerability of two national parks (Fruska Gora and Djerdap) along the Serbian Danube region, which are protected areas of great national and international significance, to major natural hazards. An analysis of the potential hazards to the protected natural and cultural-historical values was performed, and the adequacy of the allocation of protected zones was then examined according to the vulnerabilities of these values to natural hazards. The creation of a multi-hazard map is the first important task for the prevention and mitigation of natural hazards in the risk-prone area. This research represents an important step in completing the European database by including data from Serbia, a territory that was a blank area in previous hazard maps.

AB - The paper considers theoretical and applied foundations of the concept of the ecological corridors in nature conservation. Their relevance comes from recent ecological phenomenon of habitat fragmentation which is rapidly increasing during last decades. Habitat fragmentation is one of the main threats to richness and diversity of wildlife. Ecological corridors can mitigate the loss and fragmentation of habitat. Corridors perform as 'bridges' between habitats for species and they provide a flow of the natural or even anthropogenic caused disturbances. In this paper we will present the meaning and significance of ecological corridors in nature conservation, as well as types of ecological corridors and their ecological benefits. Methodological and practical approaches in nature protection system in Serbia are included.

AB - This paper will analyze the cause of, and ecological and biogeographical consequences of fragmentation process of habitats and ecosystems. Fragmentation process of the autochthonous habitats that without doubt leads also towards the break in their continuity shows by placement in all areas that are under the anthropogenic influence, and as well under the influence of the natural hazards. Spatial and functional isolation as the consequences of fragmentation can be overcome with the help of the formation of the ecological networks and corridors whose dynamic of management will be in accordance with the dynamic of change in habitats formed as the consequence of the fragmentation.
AB - Ovim radom biće analizirani kauzalnost i ekološke i biogeografske posledice procesa fragmentacije staništa i ekosistema.

AB - The territory of Serbia is vulnerable to various types of natural hazards and the risk is not equal across the entire territory, it varies depending on the type of hazard and the expected potential for damage. The first aim of this research was to determine the geographical distributions of the major types of natural hazards. Seismic hazards, landslides, rock falls, floods, torrential floods, excessive erosion, droughts and forest fires are the most significant natural hazards within the territory of Serbia. Areas vulnerable to some of these natural hazards were singled out using analytical maps; their area relative to the total area of Serbia was defined, along with the total surface area that is vulnerable to each type of natural hazard. Upper intensity values for single natural hazards were measured; these values represent the limiting factor for land-use planning at the given level. Based on these analyses, an integral map of the natural hazards of the territory was created using multi-hazard assessment. Hence, a recent state of the natural hazard vulnerabilities of the territory of Serbia was created and then an integral map was made. The integral map showed spatial distribution of the different types of hazards that are considered to be limiting factors for the highest level of land-use planning. The results presented in this article are the first mufti-hazard assessment and the fast version of the integral map of natural hazards distribution in Serbia for land-use planning, which is important both nationally and regionally.

AB - The recent climate changes, among others, have contributed to the change in elevation of the upper tree line in high mountainous areas. At the same time, direct anthropogenic impact on the fragile ecosystems of high mountains has also been significant. The aim of this paper is to determine the actual dynamics of the formation of upper tree line in eastern Serbia and to identify the recent factors which condition it. The results obtained show that preconditions have been accomplished for the upper tree line increase, but this has not completely been confirmed by previous field researches.

AB - This paper analyses the Serbian nature protection system in Belgrade. Effective protection of natural features in urban landscapes have become increasingly complex due to conversion of natural habitats, high levels of pollution and other forms of deterioration caused by human impact. These anthropogenic pressures vary in type and intensity and depend on the location of protected assets. Through comparative analyses of selected legally protected natural assets in various areas in the city, different features of spatially-functional coexistence and development are noted. According to the results of this research it is evident that various natural protected assets in highly urbanised conditions can sustain theirs primary ecological function and can also develop additional adjusted functions during time.

AB - In present times, there is a clear and growing need for applying theoretical biogeographic achievements in improving the state of biodiversity and conservation. Conceptual principles of conservation biogeography take the research into the relationship between fundamental biogeographic principles and the need for their appliance in nature conservation as the basic theory model, based upon biogeographic studies of isolated ranges. This paper is meant to point out the differences between spatial and functional isolation and the effects these have on the stability of populations and species. In light of this need to apply theories in biodiversity and nature conservation, it is important to research not only the processes that depend solely upon natural factors, but also those that are caused by a number of human-induced changes, e.g. habitat fragmentation, climate change or biotic homogenization.

AB - This paper's aim is survey of the most recent results on the stratospheric ozone condition on Earth and under Serbian territory, identification of possible causes of its dynamics, as well as projection of condition of stratospheric layer in the future. The decrease of emissions and concentrations of substances that cause ozone depletion is concluded, ozone layer is not in the state of further decomposition while the role of natural factors in its dynamics is much obvious and more significant than previously considered. During period 1979-2005 the decrease of ozone concentration was noticed under Serbian territory cumulatively for 24.5 DU (7.2%). However, by method of flexible trend it was established that process of ozone layer covering dominated from pentad 1992-1996. Inter-annual variations of stratospheric ozone concentration under Serbia have still been in the function of natural causes such as solar and volcanic activities. Key words: ozone layer, ozone holes, Serbia, CFC, natural factors.

This so called open access to information presents new challenges for those acquiring, handling storage and providing access to electronic data and information. Different organizations collect massive amounts of information related to the environment, particularly at regional and local level. However, the data are often of poor quality, inconsistent standards, stored in noninteroperable information systems and not accessible to the public. These obstacles prevent from dealing efficiently with the complex and interconnected issues which are occurring during management process of protected areas and the nature conservation. In this paper it will be presented one of solutions for these obstacles in the sense of geoinformation network for the nature protection which bringing together the different stakeholders in the process of protected areas management.

AB - In this paper we will analyze specific reconciliation emergency of nature assets protection with a spatial and functional urban landscapes development trend. Due to multifunctional nature of urban landscapes, high level of air, water and land pollution, noise magnitude exalted influence, disarrangement of autochthony communications flows inside major nature complexes, as well as other forms of anthrop pressure on the nature assets, active protection process of such assets and theirs management becomes more and more complex. On the town Belgrade territory it is recorded more than 45 natural objects which are protected by law and are under custody and managemental regime that enable theirs sustainable existence in the dominantly anthropogenic landscape.
AB - U ovom radu biće analizirana potreba specifičnog usklađivanja zaštite prirodnih dobara sa prostornim i funkcionalnim tendencijama razvoja urbanih predela. Zbog multifunkcionalne prirode samog urbanog predela, visokog stepena zagađenosti vazduha, voda i zemljišta, uticaja pojačanog intenziteta buke, poremećenih autohtonih komunikacionih tokova unutar većih prirodnih celina, kao i drugih oblika antropopresije na prirodne vrednosti, proces aktivne zaštite takvih dobara i njihovo upravljanje postaju sve kompleksniji.

AB - Medical geography studies influences between natural and social complex of geographical features on the human diseases distribution. Human health condition is specific and mostly depends on the physical-geographical surrounding, environmental quality, socio-economical conditions and other factors that affect health. In this paper geographical distribution of endemic nephropathy in Serbia is presented as noninfectious disease and application possibilities of medical-geographical approach, with the purpose of some occurrence causalities determination.
