Calpionellid biostratigraphy and microfacies of the Upper Tithonian pelagic carbonates in northeastern Serbia (Carpatho-Balkanides)

AB  - The occurrence of microfossil assemblage represented by calpionellids in close association with benthic foraminifera and encrusting Crescentiella morronensis is reported for the first time from the Upper Tithonian of NE Serbia. The biostratigraphic and sedimentological investigations were carried out on a 250 m thick carbonate succession in Jelenska Stena quarry cropping out along the Danube River Gorge in the border area of Serbian Carpatho-Balkanides and Romanian Southern Carphatians. On the basis of determined benthic foraminiferal taxa Textularia sp. cf. T bettenstaedti and Everticyclammina praekelleri in the lower part of the succession and calpionellid association dominated by the representatives of calpionellid genera Tintinnopsella, Crassicollaria and Calpionella the carbonate succession is assigned to the Upper Tithonian. The scarcity of calpionellid zonal species prevents the nominal zones being recognized. Petrographic analysis of thin-sections led to the recognition of three basin microfacies types: bioclastic wackestone, bioclastic peloidal wackestone/packstone and mudstone. These microfacies characterize the SMF 3 and SMF 4 which indicate deposition in slope and toe-of-slope environments. This study extends the palaeogeographical distribution of Upper Tithonian calpionellids along the northern Tethyan margins. The investigated carbonate succession is compared with coeval strata from other northern Tethyan regions.

Geological building materials as a factor with potential for development of the Šumadija District

AB  - Geological building materials that include building stones (structural and dimension stone), stones used to produce construction materials (binders, thermal insulation) and industrial stones are among the more important natural or, more specifically, geological resources. Their use is mostly related to construction, but also to certain other industries. When an area abounds in these resources, this can significantly boost its development, provided that the resources are used in a sus­tainable manner. This article discusses the possibilities of the Šumadija District.
AB  - Geološki građevinski materijali kao što su građevinski kamen (tehnički i arhitektonski), kamen za proizvodnju građevinskih materijala (ve­ziva, termoizolacioni materijali) i kamen u industriji, predstavlјaju jedan od važnih prirodnih, odnosno geoloških resursa. Nјihova eksploatacija, ve­zana je, pre svega za građevinsku delatnost, ali i za neke druge privredne grane. Bogatstvo u ovim resursima može značajno da doprinese lokalnom privrednom razvoju, uz uslov da se poštuju principi njihovog održivog korišćenja. Pri­mer koji je ovde prikazan odnosi se na teritoriju šumadijskog upravnog okruga.

AB  - Stratigraphic/palaeontological geosites of Stara Planina Mountain in east Serbia are well developed in the area of Serbian/Bulgarian state border, where with this occassion, three sections of exeptional geological and scientific interest are selected: Jelovica, Rosomač and Senokos. These geosites represent the important localities for study of Triassic and Jurassic terrigene-carbonate deposits, for which the scientific value from the domains of palaeontology, stratigraphy and sedimentology is widely known. The aim of this work is to represent the main scientific arguments for inventory and protection of detached transborder geological sites that are unique according to their composition and content.
AB  - Stratigrafsko-paleontološki geoobjekti Stare planine istočne Srbije su dobro razvijeni na području srpsko-bugarske državne granice gde su ovom prilikom izdvojena tri profila od izuzetnog geološkog i naučnog značaja: Jelovica, Rosomač i Senokos. Ovi geološki objekti predstavljaju značajne lokalitete za proučavanje trijaskih i jurskih terigeno-karbonatnih sedimenata čiji je naučni značaj iz domena paleontologije, stratigrafije i sedimentologije široko poznat. Cilj ovog rada je reprezentovanje glavnih naučnih argumenata za inventarisanje i zaštitu izdvojenih transgraničnih geoloških objekata koji su jedinstveni po svom sastavu i sadržaju.

AB  - The Middle Jurassic sediments of the Getic of Carpatho-Balkanides in the trans-border area of Serbia and Romania are insufficiently studied. This zone is composed mainly of pre-Jurassic metamorphic rocks and the Upper Jurassic/Lower Cretaceous limestones. The palaeontological and sedimentological study of the Middle Jurassic deposits of the Brnjica River (Carpatho-Balkanides), which is one of the rare well-exposed outcrops, is being carried out for the first time. The dominant lithologies are grey and yellow sandy limestones and marly limestones with intercalations of reddish shales characterized by low-diversity fossil assemblages dominated by molluscs. Eleven bivalve taxa are determined for the first time in the studied area. Litho-and biofacies analysis in the marine Jurassic strata are reported based on bivalve assemblages with additional data from brachiopods, ammonites and microfossils. The age of the fossil association is determined as the Upper Bajocian and Bathonian based on two brachiopod species Cymathorhynchia quadriplicata and Torquirhynchia asymmetrica. The first is reported from the Middle and the Upper Bajocian sediments and has a wider palaeobiogeographical distribution, while the latter is exclusively described from the Upper Bajocian and Bathonian of the Serbian Carpatho-Balkanides. Most of the collected bivalves have a wider stratigraphic extent. Retroceramus cf. obliquus and Plagiostoma rigidula have up to now been known from the Bajocian stage. The determined macrofauna is compared with the Middle Jurassic fauna of adjacent regions of Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, and show strong affinity to those of the northern margins of Tethys. By the end of the Bathonian, the depositional environment has changed from shallow-marine to deep-marine, suggesting a drowning of the carbonate platform.

AB  - The Upper Barremian-Lower Aptian succession is recorded from a limestone sequence that crops out in the surrounding of Rakova Bara in the Carpatho-Balkanides range in northeastern Serbia. The micropalaeontological and sedimentological studies lead to recognition of the two types of microfacies. The benthic foraminiferal association consists of Vercorsella laurentii, Rumanoloculina robusta, Praechrysalidina infracretaceae, Dictyoconus gr. arabicus, Debarina hahounerensis, Charentia cuvilieri and Pseudocyclammina lituus that confirm the stratigraphical and palaeoenvironmental connection of the microfossil assemblages with the classical Urgonian-type, shallow-water carbonate sedimentation. The association documented for the first time in the study area is considered typical of the Tethyan Realm. The stratigraphical position of the benthic foraminifera species within the Upper Barremian-Lower Aptian interval is discussed. The Urgonian Limestone's of the studied section are comparable with adjacent areas of eastern Serbia and Romanian South Carpathians.
AB  - U radu je prikazana gornjobaremsko-donjoaptska sukcesija sedimenata otkrivenih u okolini sela Rakova bara u severoistočnoj Srbiji. Mikropaleontološkim i sedimentološkim istraživanjima su izdvojena dva tipa mikrofacija. U okviru bentoske foraminiferske asocijacije su utvrđene sledeće vrste: Vercorsella laurentii, Rumanoloculina robusta, Praechrysalidina infracretaceae, Dictyoconus gr. arabicus, Debarina hahounerensis, Charentia cuvilieri i Pseudocyclammina lituus čije stratigrafsko rasprostranjenje u okviru definisanih depozicionih sredina ukazuje na klasično urgonsko razviće ovih sedimenata. Determinisana mikroasocijacija je tipična za Tetis i dokumentovana je po prvi put u ovom delu Karpato-balkanida severoistočne Srbije. Stratigrafska pozicija determinisanih vrsta je diskutovana i izvršeno je poređenje ovih tvorevina sa susednim oblastima istočne Srbije i Južnih Karpata Rumunije sa kojima pokazuju veliku sličnost.

AB  - Na teritoriji opštine Ljig postoji veliki broj ststigrafsko-paleontoloških i petroloških lokaliteta koji su jedinstveni po svom sastavu i sadržaju, te kao takvi predstavljaju značajne i jednistvene objekte prirodnog nasleđa ovog dela Srbije. U širem ataru sela Moravci kod Ljiga (Vardarska zona, SZ Srbija) razvijene su sedimentne karbonantne tvorevine donjokredne starosti koje pripadaju takozvanoj ugronskoj faciji. U okviru navedenih tvorevina uočen je geološki profil sa brojnim fosilnim ostacima pahiodontnih školjaka koji bi mogao bisti diskutovan kao potencijalni objekat geonasleđa opštine Ljig.

AB  - Aleksandrovac Zupa represents the example of territorial area with composite geological structure and furthermore compound geotectonic framework. Due to the character of some formations, framework and time relation of deformation, these areas belong among the most compound on the Balkan Peninsula. On its territory, the big and composite structural-facies zones are being confronted and became imbued. In a stratigraphic point of view, the largest extend have the Miocene deposits that overlain the crystalline schists of Proterozoic. .
AB  - Aleksandrovačka Župa predstavlja primer teritorijalne celine složenog geološkog sastava i još složenijeg geotektonskog sklopa. Prema karakteru pojedinih formacija, sklopu i vremenskim odnosi-ma deformacija ovi tereni spadaju među najsloženije na Balkanskom poluostrvu. Na njenoj teritoriji se sučeljavaju i prožimaju velike i složene strukturno-facijalne zone. U stratigrafskom pogledu najveće rasprostranjenje imaju miocenske tvorevine koje predstavljaju povlatu kristalastim škriljcima proterozoika. .

AB  - The analysis of stratigraphic-structural features of Mačva basin had been conducted in this paper on the basis of data obtained with deep exploratory boring performed for the needs of hydrogeothermal research project for the purpose of identifying the reserves of geothermal energy of Mačva. The research has been carried out with the aim of finding out the relation between the Tertiary and its Triassic bedrock (Ladinian and Carnian stages) in which process the considerable realistic image of paleorelief (the bedrock of Tertiary deposits) was obtained.
AB  - U radu je izvršena analiza stratigrafsko-tektonskih karakteristika basena Mačve na osnovu podataka koji su dobijeni dubokim istražnim bušenjem rađenim za potrebe projekta hidrogeotermalnih istraživanja u cilju utvrđivanja rezervi geotermalne energije Mačve. Sprovedeno je istraživanje čiji je cilj bio utvrđivanje odnosa između tercijara i njegove trijaske podloge (ladinski i karnijski kat) pri čemu je dobijena dosta realna slika o izgledu paleoreljefa (podloga tercijarnih sedimenata).

AB  - Kučaj basin and Suva planina basin belong to the northern part of Carpathian Balkan belt and cover the area of Golubac mountains. This part of Carpathian Balkanides during the Jurrasic and Cretaceus period represented marine environment with dominate carbonate sedimentation. In this paper on the basis of the study of the fossil remains an attempt was made of their environment reconstruction, their way and conditions of life.
AB  - Kučajski i suvoplaninski basen pripadaju severnom delu Karpato-balkanskog pojasa i obuhvataju oblast Golubačkih planina. Ovaj deo Karpato-balkanida je tokom jure i krede predstavljao marinsku sredinu sa dominantnom karbonatnom sedimentacijom. U okviru ovog rada na osnovu proučavanja fosilnih ostataka organizama izvršen je pokušaj rekonstrukcije sredine u kojoj su ti organizmi egzistovali, njihov način i uslovi života.

AB  - The possibilities for stratigraphical precision between the Upper Jurassic and the Lower Cretaceous in pelagic development are considered for the locality of Dedine stream. Nearby the city of Golubac, is observed and described the profile that starts with Paleozoic schists which are overlained with Oxfordian/Cimeridgian limestones with cherts, then follows the beds of "Lithographic limestones" and marlstones with Tithonian/Berriasian ammonites.
AB  - radu su prikazane mogućnosti za preciznije povlačenje granice između gornje jure i donje krede u pelaškom razviću na lokalitetu Dedinski potok. U neposrednoj blizini grada Golupca, je posmatran i opisan profil koji počinje paleozojskim škriljcima preko kojih leže krečnjaci sa rožnacima oksford-kimeridža, zatim sledi facija "litografskih krečnjaka" i laporaca sa amonitima titon-berijasa.

Neogene deposits of Golubac Mountains

AB  - Golubac Mountains represent the northeast part of inner Carpathian-Balkan belt, and furthermore the touchline towards the Romanian Carpathians. The youngest formations detached within the margins of researched field territory are the Neogene deposits preserved in smaller isolated basins in central part of researched area. Miocene deposits are preserved within the three basins: Rakova bara basin, Krivaca basin and Zvizd basin. For the Rakova bara basin the lithostratigraphic column is being done by virtue of the latest data revealed by recently borehole exploration. The age of these basins is lower Miocene, concerning the fact that some parts of Neogene strata of Krivaca basin and Zvizd basin according to paleontological determinations belongs to lower parts of middle Miocene.
AB  - Golubačke planine predstavljaju najseverniji deo unutrašnjeg Karpato-balkanskog pojasa, a samim tim i graničnu oblast prema rumunskim Karpatima. U granicama teritorije istraživanog terena kao najmlađe tvorevine izdvojeni su sedimenti neogena koji su očuvani u vidu manjih izolovanih basena u centralnom delu ispitivanog područja. Miocenske tvorevine su sačuvane u okviru tri basena: basen Rakove bare, basen Krivače i Zviški basen. Za Rakovobarski basen je urađen litostratigrafski stub na osnovu najnovijih podataka koji su dobijeni nedavnim istražnim bušenjem. Starost ovih basena je donjomiocenska, s tim da je na osnovu paleontoloških odredbi moguće zaključiti da odgovarajući delovi neogene serije basena Krivače i Zviškog basena pripadaju starijim odeljcima srednjeg miocena.

AB  - Važan deo prirodnog nasleđa neke zemlje su svakako i specifični geološki objekti koje možemo da nazovemo "geološkim spomenicima". Njihov značaj je toliki da ih treba tretirati kao i važne kulturno-istorijske spomenike i kao takve ih zaštititi i putem zakonske regulative i tehnički.
