AB - Tourism is a significant segment of development policy at the national level, and it is important in terms of contributing to the Gross domestic product (GDP) diversifying of economy, reducing disparities between regions, fostering development capital, and promoting regional development. Tourism greatly contributes to the sustainable development of a region and a unit of local self-government, in an environment where sometimes there are no other alternatives for achieving that goal. Theories of regional development and tourism have evolved over a similar period after the Second World War. The concept of regional development has undergone a significant transformation through various theories. The paper analyzes the main principles of the theory of endogenous regional development and the possibility of its application for tourism research as a development factor. Tourism development policy is often created by the views of these theories. The purpose of this paper is to indicate, based on the analysis of modern ideas and approaches to regional development, whether they are suitable for the study of tourism and which factors are decisive in achieving its development function. The paper points out certain elements of theories that can individually or together represent the theoretical basis for tourism development planning in regions and local government units.

AB - This research is devoted to the determination of hidden dependencies between the flow of particles that come from the Sun and precipitation-induced floods in the United Kingdom (UK). The analysis covers 20 flood events during the period from October 2001 to December 2019. The parameters of solar activity were used as model input data, while precipitations data in the period 10 days before and during each flood event were used as model output. The time lag of 0–9 days was taken into account in the research. Correlation analysis was conducted to determine the degree of randomness for the time series of input and output parameters. For establishing a potential causative link, machine learning classification predictive modeling was applied. Two approaches, the decision tree, and the random forest were used. We analyzed the accuracy of classification models forecast from 0 to 9 days in advance. It was found that the most important factors for flood forecasting are proton density with a time lag of 9, differential proton flux in the range of 310–580 keV, and ion temperature. Research in this paper has shown that the decision tree model is more accurate and adequate in predicting the appearance of precipitation-induced floods up to 9 days ahead with an accuracy of 91%. The results of this study confirmed that by increasing technical capabilities, using improved machine learning techniques and large data sets, it is possible to improve the understanding of the physical link between the solar wind and tropospheric weather and help improve severe weather forecasting.

Razvijene teritorije se odlikuju malim procentom nezaposlenog stanovništva i velikim procentom radno aktivnog stanovništva zaposlenog u delatnostima tercijarnog i kvartarnog sektora. U ovom radu, predmet analize su razlike u ekonomskoj strukturi stanovništva u gradovima i opštinama Rasinskog okruga: Kruševcu, Trsteniku, Varvarinu, Ćićevcu, Aleksandrovcu i Brusu.

AB - The primary goal of this paper was to investigate the strength of the influence of different types of risk on the travelers’ intention to visit destinations in future, that are, prejudiced due to COVID-19, marked as “stigmatized”, “isolated”, or “risky destinations”. Field interview research was conducted at the “Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport” (Serbia). The results obtained by multiple regression analysis showed that all types of risks influenced the intention of travelers, with financial risk showing a more significant impact. Canonical discriminant analysis indicated that men were most afraid of human induced risk, service quality risk, natural disaster and COVID-19 risk, and they chose safer destinations. Among the women, the biggest fear was financial risk, socio-psychological risk, and food safety risk. Older respondents and those under the influence of external factors decided on safer destinations, while financial status did not play a significant role in predicting the choice of destination. The selection of the destination according to the degree of security was determined by the ordinal regression methodology. The entire research presents a certain novelty, because so far in the numerous studies on the topic of the negative consequences of COVID-19 on tourism, there has been no discussion of stigmatized or risky destinations that received that epithet, and were therefore negatively and unfairly marked in the minds of tourists for future visits.

AB - Due to changing climatic conditions, artificial snowmaking has become a major method of ski resort adaptation globally. It is a financially intensive operation requiring high start-up investment and involving operating costs that are dependent on weather conditions. Operational costs and the expansion of artificial snowmaking systems increase the price of ski passes. In our work, we analyzed the operations of a public company that operates the largest ski resorts in Serbia and directs the flow of winter sports tourism. We tried to determine, by means of correlation, the extent to which ski pass prices in the biggest winter resort in Serbia are influenced by factors such as natural snow cover, number of tourist overnights, ski run length, and local wages. The results of the survey indicate an increasing transformation of the ski resort into a thematic attraction independent of climatic factors in terms of determining ski pass prices.

AB - The impact of solar activity on environmental processes is difficult to understand and complex for empirical modeling. This study aimed to establish forecast models of the meteorological conditions in the forest fire areas based on the solar activity parameters applying the neural networks approach. During July and August 2018, severe forest fires simultaneously occurred in the State of California (USA), Portugal, and Greece. Air temperature and humidity data together with solar parameters (integral flux of solar protons, differential electron flux and proton flux, solar wind plasma parameters, and solar radio flux at 10.7 cm data) were used in long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network ensembles. It is found that solar activity mostly affects the humidity for two stations in California and Portugal (an increase in the integral flux of solar protons of > 30 MeV by 10% increases the humidity by 3.25%, 1.65%, and 1.57%, respectively). Furthermore, an increase in air temperature of 10% increases the humidity by 2.55%, 2.01%, and 0.26%, respectively. It is shown that temperature is less sensitive to changes in solar parameters but depends on previous conditions (previous increase of 10% increases the current temperature by 0.75%, 0.34%, and 0.33%, respectively). Humidity in Greece is mostly impacted by solar flux F10.7 cm and previous values of humidity. An increase in these factors by 10% will lead to a decrease in the humidity of 3.89% or an increase of 1.31%, while air temperature mostly depends on ion temperature. If this factor increases by 10%, it will lead to air temperature rising by 0.42%.

AB - The production and use of artificial snow has become necessary in most ski centres in Europe. The lack of snow creates problems in ski centres that were built without the prior valuation of natural factors. The survey covered winter tourist centres in Serbia, which are facing problems due to the shortening of the tourist season caused by the lack of snow cover on the ski slopes. The duration of the snow cover is the result of several factors. Air temperature changes were analysed in mountain tourist centres in Serbia, as well as at undeveloped destinations with a potential for snow sports. On the basis of the quantitative indicators of the air temperature and the methodology by means of which snowmaking is carried out, the time periods during the year for making artificial snow are presented. Due to the forecast rise in air temperature, the issue of profitability of artificial snow in the ski centres of Serbia remains open.

AB - The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential for restructuring industrial areas toward tourism development within local communities, with a special emphasis on the socio-cultural determinants of residents, as well as their attitudes regarding the sustainable development of tourism. The research is also oriented toward the interests of local communities with respect to entrepreneurial activities in the field of tourism within regions relying on traditional industries, in this case, one of the largest open-pit mining surfaces in Europe (near the Serbian town of Lazarevac). The survey was conducted on a sample of 273 respondents. The research results point to the residents' attitudes regarding the acceptability of tourism development options, as well as their attitudes toward tourism development, with the aim of providing the conditions for a successful transition from a typical heavy industrial setting toward sustainable tourism development.

AB - The paper analyses the legal and institutional framework of water management in Serbia. The aim is to identify existing obstacles that interfere with the development and implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The paper points out some of the most common challenges of integrated reservoir management in Serbia, such as gaps and ambiguities in the legislative framework, poor institutional coordination, underdeveloped environmental awareness and often conflicting stakeholder involvement. The case study is trying to address the current challenges of using and managing the water reservoir. The paper will provide answers to the following questions: What are the main problems related to the use and management of reservoirs, how to reconcile different sectors and users of the water resources, how to achieve the economic and environmental development goals?.

AB - Geothermal, that is, hydrogeothermal energy is an important resource that can contribute to the energy independence of the state. In the conditions of the modern energy crisis, renewable natural resources based on hydrogeothermal potential are invaluable. The municipality of Bogatić, as part of Mačva, is one of the most promising hydrogeothermal sites in Europe. The main reservoir of low mineralization geothermal waters consists of karstic Triassic limestone and dolomite. In the main reservoir, it is realistic to expect water temperatures up to 100°C which can be used for heating purposes, in agriculture and aquaculture, industry, for balneotherapy, sports, recreation, and electricity production. Socio-economic, technical and technological and ecological advantages are numerous in comparison to other sources of energy. Considering that this is a region that has significant land potential, the production of food, primarily vegetable in greenhouses, based on the use of thermal energy, should be a priority for the whole region and the municipality of Bogatić.

AB - This paper aims to analyze an important phenomenon of our world, namely the contradictory relationship between globalization and cultural identity. Globalization is a multidimensional phenomenon that encompasses not only economic components but also cultural, ideological, political and other. Globalization in its archaic forms goes back to ancient history and roots linked to the emergence and spread of human society. The modem form reached in the second half of the 20th century, and the intensity and the culmination of the 80s and early 90s of the 20th century (the global age, postindustrial and postmodern age). Globalization is a complex process that integrates a number of factors whose interaction of globally achieved thanks to the expansion of knowledge, technologies and information across national borders. Impacts encourage globalization manifested in a series of changes in economic, political, social and especially cultural sphere, which is the subject of this paper. The concept of global values, commonly identified with the values of Western culture (americanization, westernization), and the effects of globalization is manifested through its effect on the national cultural forms. In literature and discussions amount to be different points of view the relation between globalization and culture, but the essence of the conflict based on opposing theses that reflect the "dual character" of cultural globalization. The first is a proponent of the negative impact of globalization on homogeneous national and local culture, while the other prefers diversity of cultural content, expressed through the cosmopolitan culture that does not negate the sense of national belonging. The authors in this paper analyze different interpretations of a complex relationship between culture and globalization and to emphasize the positive and negative effects arising from the relationships and connections between the global and the local.

AB - The paper is based on an assumption that there are many limitations of accelerating the decentralization process and the implementation of sustainable development policy in Serbia at the local level. Although these limitations may vary between local governments (local communities) because of different degrees of social-economic development, a framework can be defined, which will be explained on the example of Serbia as a developing country. Lately, the role and the importance of the local community has been strengthening, which is particularly intensified by the rapid technical and technological development and the need for a quick adjustment to the changes resulting from it. In this regard, the development of local government units and the level of living standard of citizens increasingly depend on the modernization of local government legislation. The issue of property and resources management at the local level is essential for the process of decentralization, economic empowerment and the development of local government. The article is and a discussion aimed at the development capacity and the problems of local government units and their ability to initiate the process of democratization and economic prosperity of the country, given the numerous development limitations (economic, social and environmental), and the inherited patterns of behavior from the time of socialism.

AB - The study of climate changes is most often based on the analysis of time series of temperature and precipitation in urban areas and the increase in the emission of gases having a greenhouse effect. On the other hand, the selection of representative and relevant stations and comprehensive analysis of climate indicators lead to better and more exact assessments on climate changes at the regional level. In order to connect climate changes with agricultural, biological, socio-economic, and tourism databases, the paper deals with the dynamic analysis of changes in thermal component expressed through the values of regional climate indices in four climatological stations with different geographical positions in Serbia. There are significant differences between the two time series data (1961-1990 and 1991-2013) on temperature and humidity, precipitation, insolation, and wind speed. However, after using the climatic indices as a tool for assessing climate changes, the results of the study suggest the relative influence of the thermal component on the change of climate indices, with a slight increase in the index of significance for human activities. Relying on the results of this alternative approach to the study of climate changes, the fact remains that the climate is not fixed but highly variable factor that should be taken into consideration in terms of monitoring, evaluation, and management of the area.

AB - The research included trends in water temperature of the Danube River at Bogojevo gauge and surface air temperature at the nearby meteorological station Sombor, as well as an analysis of the results obtained in relation to the claims of the existence of the hiatus in global air temperature increase in the period 1998-2012. In the period 1961-2013, there was a statistically significant increase in the mean annual water temperature (0.039 degrees C per year), as well as all the average monthly values. However, with annual values for the period 1998-2013, there was a decrease. The longest periods of negative trend (27 years) were recorded for January and February. A high correlation was found between the surface air temperature and water temperature for all monthly and seasonal values. In the mean annual air temperature the presence of the hiatus is not observed, but a negative trend is recorded in March (32 years), December (43 years), and February (49 years). The highest correlations between water temperature and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), Arctic Oscillation (AO), and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) were obtained for the NAO in January (0.60), the AMO in autumn (0.52), and the NAO in winter (0.51). For surface air temperature, the highest correlations were registered for the AMO in summer (0.49) and the NAO in winter (0.42). The results indicate the dominant role of natural factors in the decrease of winter air temperature and water temperature of the Danube.

AB - Just like throughout history, nowadays West Balkans is the space of merge of different interests of geopolitical factors on both global and regional levels. The key geopolitical processes in this region are articulated via the goals of globalism, i.e. so-called New World Order. In 1990s, a powerful West Balkans country -former SFR Yugoslavia, which was ethnically, nationally, religiously, and culturally heterogeneous -presented an obstacle. So in early 1990s this country was violently broken into the elements of its heterogeneity and internal animosity, which were further supported by interests of globalism, European regionalism, Islamic fundamentalism, and ancient interests of Vatican. The newly-formed countries resulting from SFRY break-up are now burdened by a whole range of complex geopolitical and total development problems. Some of these are already members of EU and NATO, some are attempting to become members, and only rare ones are trying to keep neutral position. Practically, the West already has a full control over most West Balkans and has a strong geopolitical impact on total development processes in the newly-formed states. It also has impact on the position of these states within their neighboring region. Opposite of western interests, the renewed "New Russia", has had a larger geopolitical and economic global impact, including West European. Practically, the West Balkans merges geopolitical and geostrategic interests of the West and the process of globalism that targets at a uni-polar world on one side, and interests of Russia and the concept of multi-polar world on the other. One such state of affairs warms up the old and generates the new problems in all West Balkans countries and their interstate relations.
Ovakvo stanje podgrijeva stare i generiše nove probleme u svim dražavama Zapadnog Balkana i njihovim međusobnim odnosima.

AB - This paper identifies the factors and consequences that led to geo-ecological transformation of wetland into agricultural landscape in Pancevacki rit (the Belgrade metropolitan area). The study is the result of regional geographical and geo-economic studies of Pancevacki nit, which, each year until 1932 when the system of defensive embankment was built around the region, had been exposed to flooding of the Danube and the Tamis rivers. After the construction of the defensive embankment in the period of 1932-1935 a system of melioration canals was also built and the river beds were channeled. That caused geo-ecological transformation of the territory: wetland and frequently flooded land became fertile, the settlements which had often been temporarily displaced became permanent, and in the period of 1931-2002 the number of inhabitants in the region multiplied 15.48 times. The results of the study confirm the initial hypothesis that the geo-ecological transformation of wetland into planned landscape and the vicinity of Belgrade (5 km) were the main factors that led to demographic explosion in Pancevacki nit caused by migrations, strong development of agriculture and suburban development, which has been confirmed by interviews conducted in settlements Borca and Ovca.

The results of the study confirm the initial hypothesis that the geo-ecological transformation of wetland into planned landscape and the vicinity of Belgrade (5 km) were the main factors that led to demographic explosion in Pancevacki nit caused by migrations, strong development of agriculture and suburban development, which has been confirmed by interviews conducted in settlements Borca and Ovca.",

AB - Climate is one of the main factors for the development of recreational forms of tourism in Montenegro. It affects the temporal arrangement and spatial distribution of tourists throughout the year. It determines the context of the environment in which the activities of tourists take place and represents the tourism resources. It is important for the planning and construction of tourism facilities and infrastructure, as well as the organization of tourism activities. This paper presents the tourism climatic index as a bioclimatic indicator for determining the conditions suitable for recreational tourism throughout the year. Research results according to the case study indicate the comparative advantages and also the lack of climate as the resource in tourism of Montenegro. There is an apparent underutilization of periods with climate conditions that work in favour of recreational forms of tourism. The uneven spatial and temporal arrangement of suitable climatic conditions in the tourist centres is the factor of the formation of seasonality of tourism trends. However, the results of linear correlation of tourism climatic index and monthly visits point to the incompatibility of potentials with capacity utilization.

AB - The most represented tree species in the Banjica Forest are Acer negundo, Quercus robur, Acer pseudoplatanus, Populus nigra, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Fraxinus ornus and Robinia pseudoacacia. According to the ICP Forests combined assessment (degree of defoliation and decolorization), endangered species are Populus nigra (64.3% of heavily damaged trees), Quercus robur (45.5%), Fraxinus pennsylvanica (37.0%) and Acer negundo (26.6%), while the situation is much better for Acer pseudoplatanus and Fraxinus ornus. For Robinia pseudoacacia, 83% of trees are without decolorization, however, defoliation is established. In the period from April to October 2009, the average pH of rainwater was 5.46, and 5.18 in the period from November 2009 to March 2010. The concentration of SO42- in the period from April to October 2009 amounted to an average of 24.21 mg/l, and 28.87 mg/l in the period from November 2009 to March 2010. The concentration of SO42- and pH values is a possible explanation for the condition of the trees.

AB - The paper discusses the position of national geography within the system of geography as a unique science or being one of the geographical branches. Regarding this, the subject matter, tasks, and goals of national geography are being defined. From the theoretical, conceptual, and practical points of view, national geography refers to a dual approach to the subject matter. On one hand, there is the geography of states, depending on whether the states originate from an ethnical-national principle, or they are civil states in which all the citizens belong to the same nation regardless of their ethnicity or any other characteristic. On the other side, national geography is connected with the ethnic territoriality of a nation no matter whether a nation belongs to one or several countries, all of which tightly refers to Serbian national geography. Based on the relevant researches of geography and its complementary sciences, there have been hypotheses that potentially solve the issues of Serbian geospace (Serbian lands). Among these, we stress out the issues of territorial organization and position of Serbian ethnos within the existing political-territorial systems (geographical forms) Regarding this one and many other issues of Serbian geospace within the spheres of political, economic, social, cultural, and other aspects o f development as well as with the reference to natural resources, or environment, in the past century or so, Serbian national geography has provided and is still providing possible solutions through models that might grant overall progress of the Serbian nation and spirit without threatening the legitimate interests of other ethnical groups within the Serbian geospace - including those who have attained the status of a nation through the process of ethnogenesis over both short and long time periods, and thereby affected the Serbian national being.
S teorijskog, konceptualnog i praktičnog stanovišta nacionalna geografija podrazumijeva dvojak pristup predmetu istraživanja.

AB - This paper analyzes the hydrographical conditions in the territory of Pančevacki rit before and after hydro melioration works and their impact on the socio-economic complex. After the construction of the embankment near the Danube and Tamiš rivers, the canals, pumping stations, the Pančevo bridge, and roads Belgrade-Zrenjanin, and Belgrade-Pančevo, the cultural landscape was formed in the territory of Belgrade in which changes in the structure and land use occurred, as well as a demographic explosion, industrialization, urbanization of the southern part and suburbanization of the central and northern part of Pančevački rit.
