AB - The town of Rasa was mentioned in the tenth-century work De administrando imperio by Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus. The significance of this town in the Middle Ages is indicated by the fact that this toponym appears on old maps created by the greatest European cartographers from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries. Based on cartographic and historical geographical sources, this paper considers various perceptions and texts connecting the town of Rasa with today's town of Razanj or with the medieval Serbian capital Ras. The subject treated is historical social geography. Five types of sources were used for the historical geography of the Balkans: old maps, chronicles, geographical nomenclature, archeological findings, and ethnographic findings. Based on written sources, geographical names, and geographical logic, the authors provide their own conclusions about the geographical position of the town of Rasa.

AB - Mačva is the lowland region in the northwestern part of Serbia, which due to natural and geopolitical benefits for the existence and security, was the meeting place of migration from the current Dinaric hilly and mountainous areas. Due to the demographic and migratory movements Mačva has historically been a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment, which took place in the complex processes of ethno-cultural interaction and assimilation. However, the historical memory and folk tradition, as well as some elements of folklore, mentalities and local identity, are still remnants of the countries of origin. The paper is devoted attention mainly origin population in Mačva placed in the context of socio-historical and political events. Researching included 35 settlements of Mačva.

AB - This paper presents a comparative analysis of relevant methodological essence of "traditional" and "new" cultural geography. In the introduction is given an explanation of philosophic concepts of space, environment, place and the region in cultural geography. In second section is analyzed the meaning of civilization and the genesis of geography of civilization (géographie de civilisation). Special attention is on features of geographical posibilism as methodological paradigm, and the concept of cultural landscape as the essence of classical geography of culture and civilization. After this part are researched specific characteristics of certain academic schools and methodological perspectives in cultural geography. Postmodern paradigm and essence of "new" cultural geography are in the main focus. Postmodernism is changing the meaning of the basic concepts in cultural geography, which are analyzed in the introduction, such as space, culture, cultural region, cultural landscape and others. "New" cultural geography reassessed social and moral issues associated with the characteristics of the postmodern era. In this regard, methodological paradigm must be changed. This ascertainment is based on the interpretation of humanistic geography, where the emphasis is on the interpretation of cultural symbols, causal link and the "spirit of place" (Spiritus Loci). In accordance with modern conceptions of human in psychological notion, there are at least three theoretical directions, which find resonance in the appropriate cultural geography: behaviorism, psychoanalytic concept and cognitive concept gestaltism and geography of perception. In conclusion is emphasized the need of finding a dialectical unity in "classical" and "new" cultural geography.

Countries and cities of 10th century West Balkans according to Constantine Porphyrogenitus on the map of Guillaume Delisle

AB - The paper discusses the perception of countries and cities of 10th century West Balkans according to Constantine Porphyrogenitus VII, as displayed on Guillaume Delisle's map and some recent findings within the field of historical geography. The aim of the paper is to argue the mid-10th century West Balkans map and identify the pioneer Slavic settlements on the basis of two mutually connected sources. The first one is De administrando Imperio by Constantine Porphyrogenitus VII dating back from mid-10th century, and the other one is a poorly studied but priceless map designed by Guillaume Delisle, a French cartographer, titled "Eastern Empire and neighboring regions of Constantine Porphyrogenitus ". According to Anselmo Banduri, a Benedictine scholar and historian from Dubrovnik, who wrote an extensive writing that became a part of Parisian corpus along with the latest edition of the famous Porphyrogenitus's essay, the map was designed around 1718.

AB - The aim of this paper is to contribute to the identification of the first inhabited cities in baptized Serbia at the beginning of the X century, mentioned by Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus. Writings from that time are important documents which provide a picture of the reality, but it is also necessary to carefully study the old maps. Of particular note is the French geographer and cartographer, Guillaume Delisle (Guillaume de L'Isle), a member of the Royal Academy of Science, from the beginning of the XVIII century, whose map 'Eastern Empire and neighboring regions of Constantine Porphyrogenitus' ('Imperio Orientalis et circumjacentium regionum sub Constantino Porphyrogenito et ejus praedecestoribus Descriptio') made on the data basis on Porphyrogenitus, so far not been used in the elucidation of uncertainty about the position of the first inhabited cities in christened Serbia. This map could be useful in researching of the networks of the cities, and territorial organization of Serbia and other Balkan countries.
Posebnu pažnju zaslužuje francuski geograf i kartograf Gijom de Lil (Guillaume de L'Isle), član Kraljevske akademije nauka, s početka XVIII veka, čija karta 'Istočna imperija i susedni regioni Konstantina Porfirogenita' ('Imperii Orientalis et circumjacentium regionum sub Constantino Porphyrogenito et ejus praedecestoribus Descriptio') urađena na bazi podataka Porfirogenita, do sada koliko nam je poznato, nije bila korišćena u rasvetljavanju nedoumica oko položaja prvih naseljenih gradova u pokrštenoj Srbiji.

This map could be useful in researching of the networks of the cities, and territorial organization of Serbia and other Balkan countries., Cilj ovoga rada je da doprinese identifikaciji prvih naseljenih gradova pokrštene Srbije na početku X veka, koje spominje Konstantin VII Porfirogenit. Posebnu pažnju zaslužuje francuski geograf i kartograf Gijom de Lil (Guillaume de L'Isle), član Kraljevske akademije nauka, s početka XVIII veka, čija karta 'Istočna imperija i susedni regioni Konstantina Porfirogenita' ('Imperii Orientalis et circumjacentium regionum sub Constantino Porphyrogenito et ejus praedecestoribus Descriptio') urađena na bazi podataka Porfirogenita, do sada koliko nam je poznato, nije bila korišćena u rasvetljavanju nedoumica oko položaja prvih naseljenih gradova u pokrštenoj Srbiji.

AB - Origin and meaning of the name of the city of Šabac was object of interest for many Serbian and foreign historical geographers, linguist geographers, anthropogeographers and others. Nevertheless, the meaning of this name has not been clearly researched till today. Some scientist believed that 'Zaslon, the city on the river Sava, is Šabac in Greek', some others believe that the name Šabac is in Serbian language. In this research paper authors deals with two hypotheses about the name. First hypothesis connects city name with the river Sava, and the second with name of god Sabacius (Sabazije), who was identified as Dionysus and Thracian god horse rider. However, these names are much older than material evidences about city genesis.

AB - U radu su izložene obrazovno-vaspitne funkcije nastave geografije, formulisani strateški ciljevi i zadaci, istaknuti prioriteti razvoja nastave geografije u duhu savremenih društvenih potreba.

AB - Because of their particularities, thermal and mineral springs at the foothill of Cer Mountain deserve special analysis. This is the reason we wrote this article, aiming to take reader's attention to the touristic potentials of the spa zone of Cer Mountain and possibilities for its perspective development. From the medical and excursion-recreational tourism point of view, there is a possibility for combining the spa tourism with the complementary values of Cer Mountain.
AB - Termalni i mineralni izvori u cerskoj podgorini zbog svojih specifičnosti zaslužuju posebnu analizu. Zbog toga smo i prišli ovom radu, nastojeći da skrenemo pažnju na turističku vrednost potencijalne banjske zone Cera i mogućnost njenog perspektivnog razvoja. Sa gledišta zdravstvenog i izletničko-rekreativnog turizma postoji mogućnost kombinovanja banjskog turizma sa komplementarnim vrednostima planine Cer.

AB - In northwest of Serbia in the meridians directions an elongated mountain range of Cer with Iverak and Vlašić stretches itself. On the north it goes down to Mačva and Posavina, on the west to Podrinje, on the east to the valley of Kolubara, on the south to the basins and valleys of Jadar and upper Kolubara, which separate it from the mountains of Valjevo and Podrinje area. Cer mountain offers extremely good condition for development of eco-tourism. The variety of relief with gorgeous see-sites, natural rarities, convenient bio-climatic conditions, significant water resources, forest complexes, medieval fortresses, cultural-historic monuments, richness of flora and fauna, preserved rural environment, traditions and customs of local population, were all neglected as strategic factors in the development of tourism. This mountain’s potentials are quite satisfactory for the needs of eco-tourism, similar to the National Park of Fruška Gora, but it has lacked an adequate ecotourist strategy so far. This study aims to pointing to the potential and possibilities of ecotourist valorization of this mountain.
AB - Po dominantnosti položaja i estetskoj kompoziciji pejzaža i predeonog lika Cer predstavlja izuzetnu planinsku celinu u severozapadnoj Srbiji.
