AB  - Regionalization is a contemporary conception of a development within a society. We are interested in cooperation at regions whose area is intersected by the national border. One of those borders is the Drina River that in different periods had changeable role of connecting or separating. In this way we want to stress the necessity of making a stronger, functional connection and developing of overall process of integration in the Podrinje region, on a land between the two republics-Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, because we think that this area has the most reasons for that, but so far it has been done very little. The first attempts to form Euroregions in Lower Podrinje region have already started, but it lacks many activities for this area to receive a cross-border role that it deserves.
AB  - Regionalizaciju izdvajamo kao savremeni koncept razvoja u okviru jednog društva. Naš predmet interesovanja je saradnja na regionalnom nivou čije područje preseca državna granica. Jedna takva, istorijski nametnuta, granica je reka Drina, koja je u različitim periodima imala i promenljivu ulogu - spajanja ili razdvajanja. Ovom prilikom želimo da ukažemo na potrebu stvaranja čvršće funkcionalne veze i razvoja sveobuhvatnog procesa integracije u oblasti Podrinja, na kontaktu između dveju republika - Srbije i Srpske, jer smatramo da u ovom području postoji najviše osnova za to, a do sada je učinjeno vrlo malo. Prvi pokušaji oko formiranja evroregiona u donjem Podrinju već su pokrenuti, ali nedostaje još mnogo aktivnosti kako bi ovo područje dobilo transgraničnu ulogu kakvu zaslužuje.

AB  - Within the new 'European state architecture', based on the policy of the Western countries that encourage transborder cooperation, the last decade of the second millennium was characterized by considerable 'mutations' in the countries of the former Eastern block. With a strong logistic and financial support, that European project was quickly accepted in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe. Linking of transborder regions by means of direct cooperation, leaning upon the legal framework that allows the official competence of local and regional authorities, with obeying of national laws is the basis and the main reason for acceptance of this European policy which precedes the real European integration. One of such regions, formed in the southern part of the Pannonian plain, is the 'Danube-Drava-Sava Euroregion' that links Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with north-western Bačka, which still has the status of the observer.

AB  - Dr Srboljub Stamenković, a full professor at the University of Belgrade, Geographic Faculty, was born on August 22, 1951 in Ćukovac near Vranje. He completed elementary school and high school of economics in Vranje and studies of Geography at the Geography Department, Faculty of Mathematics at Priština University. He completed Master studies in the area of: "Geographical basis of spatial planning" in 1981, with Master thesis title "Urban-geographical development of Vranje", at the University of Skoplje, Geographic Faculty, where he also completed Ph.d. studies with the thesis title "Spatial-functional relations and connections of central settlements in the Vranje sub-region" in 1985. After completion of regular studies, since 1975 until present day, he was permanently employed at the following institutions: School of Economics "Dimitrije Tucović" in Vranje, Pedagogue Academy "Ivo Andrić" in Vranje, Republic Institute for Advancement of Education in Belgrade, and from November 1, 1990 until present day at the University of Belgrade, Geographic Faculty. Prof. Dr Srboljub Stamenković directed creation of more than 80 graduation papers, four master thesis and two doctoral dissertations, and now manages creation of five master and three doctoral thesis. His long-standing scientific work in the area of settlements geography professor Dr Stamenković crowned by the project "Geographic encyclopedia of Serbian settlements", which represents a unique undertaking in the entire Serbian and Balkans scientific encyclopedic literature. Since 1975 until present day, Prof. Dr Srboljub Stamenković published 148 studies: 5 scientific monographs, 62 original and clear scientific studies, 3 thematic cards, 14 scientific-popular and studies from geography teaching methods, 11 textbooks and didactic materials for elementary and high schools - out of which two represent University textbooks from the area of his long-standing teachings, 44 encyclopedic studies and 9 surveys and adequate notes. He participated with reports in more than 20 scientific gatherings in Serbia and former Yugoslav republics. Along with that, he participated in realization of many scientific-research projects.
