AB - After the breakup of the former Republic of Yugoslavia, the number of inhabitants in newly formed state of Serbia has been in constant decrease. On the other hand, the number of urban areas has been growing. One of the main goals of former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was the development of all the areas, including the rural ones. In the '60s and the '70s, the land with special purpose was supposed to be of the utmost importance. Urban regions were to be better connected and enlarged. The main reason for it was the distribution of economic activities as well as the process of deagrarization which had already been in progress. In 1966, the first spatial plan of a special-purpose area, being the outset of an idea in a Socialist country, was in fact the proposition of the first Yugoslav conurbation. The long forgotten project was about to be reinforced in 1996, when thirty years later the country was in a transitional period, heading towards market capitalization. After the final breakup of Yuoslavia, there was a growing need for preservation of the urban areas and large trade centers, along with the necessity of better communication among municipalities. The ambitious project in question called "Morava city", has never been brought to life. The main purpose of this manuscript is to answer the question of the actual necessity of this potential conurbation by means of GIS methodology, qualitative and quantitative techniques, and demographic and sociological factors. Accordingly, by means of spatial analysis, the communist project is placed into post-communist environment. Finally, the manuscript focuses on the relationship between rural and urban areas, traffic connectivity, geographical position, and most importantly on the sustainability and profitability of the first Serbian conurbation.

AB - The process of urbanistic changes in space and time is not a steady one, nor always the same, followed by dissipation and demolition of objects, and the construction of new ones does not necessarily stabilize the process of changes within space. The changes that took place on the former narrow-gauge railroad Belgrade-Obrenovac reflect the changes in historical, cultural, and urban processes as well. The strategic plan of the development of the city and the villages altered, as certain sections of the railroad were being shut down. The observance of a particular infrastructure is, at the same time, the base for monitoring the urban changes through time. Forty years later, the railroad was not the only thing that had ceased to function. Using qualitative and historical methods, this study is an attempt to give answers to multiple questions, some of them being the reasons for the deconstruction of the railroad.

AB - The map is the basic tool of interactive, dynamic geospatial research. The complex structure of geodata is necessary to be graphically interpreted with the help of cartographical presentation (locational and
attributional). The synergy of cartographic visualization, generalization and cartographic methods enables
efficient implementation of geosystem analysis. Geovisualization includes a range of activities according to
research, systematization, classification and typification, analysis and synthesis, comparison, presentation to
the interpretation of occurrences and processes in geospace. The cartographic translation is a complex process
of visualization of geo-data, based on the scientific procedures of generalizing the content of the map using
the cartographic method. The gnoseological sense of the cartographic method is also the primary goal of
geovisualization: - spatial definition of the phenomenon, - time correlation of the phenomenon and processes of
actual reality and their evolution, and - essential definition of the phenomenon and processes of actual reality.
The cognitive sense of cartographic visualization is primarily achieved through the procedures of cartographic
generalizations. Digital technology provides great opportunities for modern cartographic visualization. Besides
realistic, virtual maps are of great importance too. Visual dynamic representations of geo-data (interactive
visualization of spatial databases) and the creation of detailed 3D and 4D models are continually increasing.
Digital data processing enables new dimensions of data analysis, and the process implies generalizing data
from the source database while respecting different geo-data attributes, as well as adequate graphical solutions
in displaying a generalizable data set.

AB - In this paper, we are explaining a decade long investigation of historical, sacral and archaeological sites in the Toplica District (Serbia) as one of the significant cultural heritage sites in Europe with more than 226 objects with different time of origin. The survey was carried out for the purpose of better recognizing the archaeological potential. In science like archaeology, static objects, if not dynamized, remain unrecognizable to the general public, regardless of their historical and archaeological importance. Historical changes during the period of more than 7,000 years, with many sites of cultural heritage in this district, were recognized. Ordinary kriging was employed through Quantum Geographical Information System (QGIS) and System for Automated Geoscientific Analysis (SAGA). The positions of historical objects are registered, from the Neolithic period to modern times. With the help of GIS and geo-statistical methods, archaeological and historical layers can be rediscovered and better recognized. GIS algorithm ordinary kriging was used to complete the cultural heritage potential and archaeological valorization of the objects with geo-spatial dispersion. As a final product, we have obtained maps with historical and archaeological locations. For the first time, we used a scientific name for contour lines (archlines) with an equal number of archaeological units per density. In the end, archaeological and historical objects and their features were shown with the support of geographical and GIS methods.

AB - During the past twenty years, the need to reach the Moon by the private space missions has been growing. Some of the private missions are supported by Google Lunar X-prize and Space-X. In the period between 2020 and 2050 private companies will be planning landing to the Moon with their own capacity. These missions can send new geodesy and cartography data. Lunar topography modelling with new satellite and remote sensing data gives plenty of possibilities for its exploration. GIS (Geographical Information System) may be successfully to the Moon topography analysis. According to the results after GIS numerical analysis 30% of the territory of the Moon showed excellent characteristics for landing. The most useful parts of the Moon for potential landing belong to the altitude between 2,000 and 3,000 m and on the plateaus with the north-east direction of azimuth. These plateaus have an excellent inclination of 3 degrees and azimuth of 120 degrees. The main aim and goal of this investigation would be in better understanding of Moon topography and relief. With help of GIS numerical methods, the astronomical geodesy may be applied in better way. A potential mission to the Moon can use this topography investigation, presented maps and results.

AB - In this paper, we explored the influence of the global climate changes to the Christian Holy places around the world. The catastrophic prediction of devastation can be indicated by resistance of some plants on the Earth. Due to weather forecasting given by the World Meteorological Organization, with help of the multiple criteria of Geographical Information System, we have done climate analysis. For the modelling of climate changes, we also considered agroclimatological parameters for the three most optimal crops; corn, soybean and wheat. In this way, we can give a better connection between the Holy Bible and modern science prognosis.

AB - The town of Obrenovac is situated near the banks of three rivers, the Sava River, the Kolubara River and the Tamnava River. It looks like a modern town, though it has often developed in an unplanned manner. This causes huge problems as it thrives in a rough terrain, without a plan, which the communal infrastructure cannot follow. Today's needs in terms of spatial planning, envisaging projects and keeping track of a different kind of information on space demand that new technologies be applied since they make it possible for procuring efficient and reliable information as well as connecting and interconnecting various sorts of data. Also with advanced numerical GIS data and relief analysis we were successfully calculated consequence of the last big flood in 2014.

AB - Corine Satellite Detection in combination with GIS may analyse and show the quantitive and qualitive features of a forest belt. As a result, it gives 100 m resolution satellite recordings and may even show horizontal forest dispersness. In order to avoid exceptions and recording overlapping with digitalization, what is considered is a 100 m resolution, an identical projection file called WGS 84, so that the Corine recording projection may be harmonised. This detection defines 44 types of earth layers, while a forest earth layer is defined by 12 types of soil. Concerning the specific nature of the territory observed, 5 types of soil are considered. What is observed in the soil structure are features of a territorial span with 3 types of forests, mixed forests, broad-leaved forests and coniferous forests, including two soil types containing sparsely vegetated areas or natural grasslands.

AB - Complex networks with building density play a significant role in many fields of science, especially in urban sciences. That includes road networks, hydrological networks, computer networks and building changes into geo-space through some period. Using these networks we can solve the problems like the shortest path, the total capacity of networks, density population or traffic density in an urban or suburban area. In this paper for quantifying the complexity of road networks and a novel method for determining building density by using a matrix pixel analysis and Kernel distribution with a concrete example of the city of Belgrade. Both of them represent geo-spatial data. In this case we have analyzed road networks, building density, with the help of specially created software for analyzing pixels on the maps from 1971, including the properties of geo-spatial data we have analyzed from old topographic maps in ratio 1:25.000.

AB - The Devil's City is a unique geomorphological site well known regarding strangely sculptured stony pillars or soil (clayey) pyramids, abandoned mines and two rare hydrologic occurrences. The present landscape is partly inherited from the paleo-volcanic topography and shaped afterwards by erosion, particularly linear erosion. Soil pyramids owe their origin to the differential erosion of a more compact andesitic level on less cohesive pyroclastic material and disintegrate relatively quickly when they lose their protective "cap". The pyramids are located along the two gullies, Devil's and Hell's. In the latter, also known as "The young Devil's City" the erosion process is in the beginning. The results of combined petrological and geomorphological studies permitted us to reconstruct past geological processes and predict the future evolution of the Devil's City. Geographic information system (GIS) and digital topographic modeling are becoming powerful tools not only in geographic sciences but also in geomorphological and geological modeling.

AB - The monitoring of the territory of Prokuplje Municipality was done based on 1 : 25,000 topographic maps in three different time periods (1969, 1974, and 1984) and land cover map in 2012. Analogous topographic maps done in 1969, 1974, and 1984 were used, while in 2012 the land cover map obtained by using CORINE-like approach was used. Topographic maps are developed by aerial campaign, and today they are replaced by satellite images. Topographic maps were scanned, and raster form was transformed to vector data with Geo Media Professional 6.1 and Global Mapper software. The monitoring in the period of 1969-2012, on the area of 758300000 m(2), was performed, where some parameters were analyzed. In particular, the changes of natural resources, primarily forest lands, were observed as well as the type of land susceptible to primary erosion, including the level of urbanization and level of agricultural land. The obtained results clearly showed changes in forestation within the 43-year-long period, as well as changes in primary erosion and urbanization, while at the level of agricultural land, slight changes were found. The paper also involved transition of social factors from 1969 to 2012, expressed as a change between the earth and forest layer.

AB - The work displays the presumed laws of flooding waves which would occur if the 1976 situation when the great floods in Kosovo happened reoccurred again. On a 1:300000 multilayer map of Kosovo and Metohia, there are areas which would have been flooded in case of a maximum flooding wave, and what is also shown is the areas which were covered in water as the average was measured, including the areas used as projects of minimal flooding wave value. There is a layer showing the points with regular flood defense, including the places where protection needs to establish. The map includes the ratio of 1:300000, whilst the areas are calculated with the help of processing their dynamic static's, as well as using the formulae Gumbel Distribution and Weibull Formula. The data have been calculated with their maximum value, including the average and the minimum of flooding period embracing the time of 40 years.

The data have been calculated with their maximum value, including the average and the minimum of flooding period embracing the time of 40 years.",

AB - Modern geo morphological topography research have been using quantity statistic and cartographic methods for topographic relief features, mutual relief features, mutual connection analyses on the grounds of good quality numeric parameters etc. Topographic features are important for topographic activities are important for important natural activities. Important morphological characteristics are precisely at the angle of topography, hypsometry, and topography exposition and so on. Small yet unknown relief slants can deeply affect land configuration, hypsometry, topographic exposition etc. Expositions modify the light and heat of interconnected phenomena: soil and air temperature, soil disintegration, the length of vegetation period, the complexity of photosynthesis, the fruitfulness of agricultural crops, the height of snow limit etc.
Ekspozicije modifikuju uticaj svetlosti i toplote na niz uzajamno povezanih pojava: temperatura tla i vazduha, raspadanje stena, dužinu vegetacionog perioda, sastav fitocenoze, plodored poljoprivrednih kultura, prinose poljoprivrednih kultura, visinu snežne granice itd.

AB - Man, as a conscious being has always had a need for collecting and storing data on the environment in which he lives. Drawings on cave walls are the beginnings of planetary libraries, universal database, the forerunner of modern information technology. Geographic Information System is a special form of information systems, applied to geographic data. By placing the maps and other spatial information in digital format, GIS data enables the organization to understand their spatial relationships. Horizontal objectives to support the development of European Union information society and environmental management and sustainable development. Serbia acceded to it through various projects. In order to manage natural resources in a sustainable manner requires accurate and timely information in order to react to changes in space. Participation in the project of establishing GIS portal River Sava (with Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina) will enable the collection of relevant data to facilitate management of the Sava river. In recent years, is warmer with less precipitation during the months vegetation. In important for the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Union for the Western Balkans project launched WATER WEB. He will provide strategic water management practices in three Western Balkan river basin, the base models of exploitation of water and fertilizers for the four major crops, modern technology and procedures, including the so-called irrigation, partial root drying, agronomic and economic evaluation of a new culture resistant to salt, socio-economic assessment procedures for water management and irrigation and the use of GIS (geographic information systems) database and the possibility of their modelling for the Western Balkans. Each field in Serbia will soon get a "passport", geo-information system, which will find all the arable land in Serbia. The system should show whether the particular land can be used for crop, vegetable, livestock, wine or fruit production.

Serbian cartography: From engineering to digital

AB - Today's territory of Serbia early appeared on geographical maps as it was a direct result of its territory in relation to the centres of the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. However, cartographic displays have long been scarce and uneven. Serbia's separation from mainstream European cartography has affected its inaccurate displays, taking over data from old maps and relying on chronicles. This is why Serbia's displays on maps and its cartographic heritage have to be observed dualistically, simultaneously as European cartographic displays of Serbia and Serbian cartography.

AB - Visualization is a field of computer graphics which explores the analytical and communication possibilities of visual presentation. Visualization explores the possibilities of using images, similar to three-dimensional world, as models so that analysis and communication can be improved. Visualization depends on new computer techniques of data analysis and presentation, as well as on the accuracy, exactness and form of said data. Visualization is a scientific tool, but its application demands art, imagination and intuition. Visualization demands the use of the latest and the best computer technology.

AB - Belgrade's suburban region of the Pancevacki Rit (378.6 km(2)) is located in the southwestern part of Banat, between the Danube and Tamis rivers. In the past, the Pancevacki Rit was typical marsh region, often flooded by rivers Danube and Tamis. Some areas of Pancevacki Rit were poorly populated, and people lived in pile dwellings (stilt houses), and because of that, village Borca was called Serbian Venice. By the construction of a dam, with an irregular oval shape, around the Pancevacki Rit, and melioration systems, in 1934th, this area has undergone landscape geography transformation, and from wetlands was converted to agricultural area, suitable for habitation. Thus, Pancevacki Rit has grown in Belgrade's suburban agricultural region with the largest agricultural conglomerate in Serbia - PIK. Belgrade, which supplies Belgrade and its catchment area with agricultural products. In this paper we analyze how new technologies can be used in creation of useful map of landscape geography transformation.

AB - This study is about basic cartographic conception like sign and symbol and their vertical and horizontal connection and condition. Also, the function that they have is marked by nominal, ordinal and interval-ratio scales of measurement, i.e. levels of representing signs. All these factors are connected and give us information about qualitative and quantitative characteristics of occurrences in space that we are mapping. Beside main concept, the statistical unit for determination the key of signs for thematic maps will be also presented here. This unit gives the main characteristics of sign, which is mapped at specific map or plan. .

AB - Development of cartography at the University is in close relation with social and economic development of Serbia. Due to historical circumstances - liberation wars and territorial federation, cartography was originally based on map making, i.e. the applied cartography within military institutions, and later at the university. During last twenty years of XX century, the cartography has had its intense development due to its interactivity and possibility to process the spatial data by improving and applying of the computers. The main problem in cartography development is that there are no schools or studies for education of the cartographers. The skills are acquired in the course of geography or geodesy studies. At the Faculty for Geography there has been established the Department for Cartography, a Laboratory for cartography and post-graduate studies in Geographic cartography. Master and doctorate studies are organized as a consequence of the reforms. There is a great difference in comprehension of cartography in the past times and nowadays.
AB - Kartografija se danas nalazi u vrlo turbulentnom i izazovnom periodu. Tzv. "demokratizacija" kartografije otvara mogućnosti interaktivnosti, tako da se obrazuju korisnici kartografije a ne samo korisnici karata koje su drugi izradili. Reforma visokog školstva uslovljava promene u programu kartografskih predmeta (teorijska, tematska i digitalna kartografija), organizaciji i obimu sadržaja, profilu stručnosti, cilju obrazovanja.

AB - Cartography is a science, technique and art. Cartography is organization and communication of geographical connected information in graphical and digital forms. That can include all conditions of data prepared for presentation and usage. Cartography in the cotemporary society is a system of diverse manifestation forms dominated by making and using traditional and virtual cartosemiotic models of reality and fiction. Cartography is dynamic science, which developing its disciplines according to demands of modern theory and needs of practical sciences, often tacking and overlaying with their researching fields. On that way there are becoming new disciplines (bridges between sciences), which not leading to new differentiations but their integrations. That new disciplines are: Cartoinformatics (geoinformation cartography), Geoicons and Geoimage.
Kartografija u savremenom svetu je sistem različitih pojavnih oblika dominantnih u pravljenju i korišćenju tradicionalnih i virtuelnih kartosemiotičkih modela stvarnosti i fikcije.

That new disciplines are: Cartoinformatics (geoinformation cartography), Geoicons and Geoimage., Kartografija je nauka, tehnika i umetnost. Kartografija u savremenom svetu je sistem različitih pojavnih oblika dominantnih u pravljenju i korišćenju tradicionalnih i virtuelnih kartosemiotičkih modela stvarnosti i fikcije.

AB - Many factors influenced the development of the City of Belgrade: function of the administrative-political state center, administrative-territorial changes and stormy political and wartime events during the 90-s of the 20-th century on the area of former SFRY. Especially high increase in the population of the City of Belgrade after the WWII is more the consequence of the migrations than the natural increase in the population. The population increase influenced the spreading of the Belgrade administrative territory. The changes in the population numbers influenced the significant changes in the population composition in terms of economic characteristics. The basic characteristic is the increase in the total population numbers and constant fall of the total number of agricultural population. The fastened industrialization, an increase in the standard of living, mechanization, etc., are causes of sudden decrease of total and active agricultural population.
