AB - The main goal of this research is to examine thermal comfort in the central area of Belgrade (Serbia), over a period of 30 years (1991-2020). The Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) was used as a measure for evaluating outdoor thermal comfort (OTC). The obtained results were considered separately for each season, as well as at the annual level. The analysis was carried out on the basis of an extensive database, which included hourly values (7h, 14h, 21h CET) of meteorological parameters, as well as their average daily, minimum, and maximum values.
The obtained values of UTCIs show a positive growth trend during all four seasons. A significant
increase in the annual values of UTCIs was also recorded. Four of five years with the highest average UTCIs were recorded in the last decade of the survey, more precisely in the period 2015-2020. The years that stand out for the frequency of record spring, autumn and winter UTCIs values are 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. On an annual level, minimum UTCI value has rising trend of 0.099°C/year, while at maximum UTCI value, that trend is 0.081°C/year

AB - Thermal comfort assessments at local or micro-scales within urban areas can provide crucial insights for the urban adaptation strategies pertaining to climate-conscious urban planning and public health. However, the availability of long-term or mid-term daily or hourly meteorological data sets from urban environments remains a significant challenge even in the 21st century. Consequently, this study aimed to assess the thermal conditions in cities across the western part of the Balkan Peninsula, encompassing five countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro), by utilizing the Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) index. Meteorological data sets, comprising air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and cloudiness, were collected from 32 national meteorological stations/measurement locations spanning the period from 2001 to 2020. The PET calculations were conducted based on meteorological data measured three times per day (7 a.m., 2 p.m., and 9 p.m.). Upon conducting a spatial analysis of the meteorological stations, it was observed that most of them (25 stations) were situated within built-up areas or urban suburbs, rendering them highly relevant for local or micro-scale climate and bioclimate assessments. The findings revealed that urban locations exhibited slightly higher PET heat stress levels, particularly during the summer season and at 2 p.m. Moreover, higher average PET values were observed in both urban and non-urban stations situated within a continental climate during warmer periods, such as summer. In contrast, during the colder seasons, namely winter and spring, higher PET values were prevalent in the Mediterranean region. Furthermore, the PET frequency analysis revealed a greater prevalence of extreme and severe heat stress levels in stations within continental climates, particularly those located in urban areas, as compared to stations in Mediterranean climates. In contrast, during the winter and spring seasons, monitoring stations in close proximity to the Adriatic Sea, characterized by a Mediterranean climate, exhibited significantly lower levels of cold stress compared to inland stations. Evidently, in addition to the climatic characteristics and surrounding terrain, the urban morphology significantly impacts the thermal conditions within cities.

Outdoor Thermal Comfort as an Indicator of the "Belgrade Green City" Concept - Advantages and Applications

AB - The main goal of this research is to present outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) as one of the
criteria and instruments for creating a more efficient urban planning policy, with the aim of
mitigating the effects of climate change. Also, the idea is that the application of various indices that determine OTC can contribute to the improvement of the urban planning methodology. Belgrade's vision is to become a "green city", and one of the dominant features of green cities is that the bioclimatic conditions of the urban environment are favorable for people's life and work. This aspiration was formally confirmed in 2018 when Belgrade became part of the large international project “EBRD Green Cities”, but also with the adoption of the “Green City Action Plan of Belgrade” in 2021. However, while there is a clear aspiration, achieving this goal will be very challenging. First, due to climate change, Serbia's climate is characterized by a warming trend since 1980, which is confirmed by many scientists. In recent years, summer anomalies, extreme weather conditions, and intense heat-waves are becoming more frequent, which results in increasingly unfavorable OTC. On the other hand, construction in Belgrade has significantly intensified (in the period 2016-2020 the number of annually built apartments increased by 70%), while the central city area is markedly deficient in greenery, and public green areas cover only 2.83% of the total territory. OTC, that can help us in understanding these problems, but also in solving them, is not yet recognized in domestic urban planning practice.

Stara Planina is located in the eastern part of the Republic of Serbia and represents the westernmost part of the large mountain massif of the Balkans. Both endogenous and exogenous forces created interesting geomorphological and hydrological features for geotourism development in this area. This article proposes a preliminary list of geomorphological and hydrological sites and analyses them to reveal which geosite possesses geotourism potential. This research was carried out by applying the modified geosite assessment model. In this article, ten geosites were singled out based on the degree of their attractiveness for geotourism development. The results reveal information about the key fields of improvement for each evaluated geosite, and identify which areas require more attention and better management in the upcoming period for Mt. Stara Planina to become a well-known geotourism destination that would attract a large number of tourists in the future.

AB - The urban microclimate is gradually changing due to climate change, extreme weather
conditions, urbanization, and the heat island effect. In such an altered environment, outdoor thermal comfort can have a strong impact on public health and quality of life in urban areas. In this study, three main urban areas in Serbia were selected: Belgrade (Central Serbia), Novi Sad (Northern Serbia), and Niš (Southern Serbia). The focus was on the temporal assessment of OTC, using the UTCI over a period of 20 years (1999–2018) during different seasons. The main aim is the general estimation of the OTC of Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš, in order to gain better insight into the bioclimatic condition, current trends and anomalies that have occurred. The analysis was conducted based on an hourly (7 h, 14 h, and 21 h CET) and “day by day” meteorological data set. Findings show the presence of a growing trend in seasonal UTCI anomalies, especially during summer and spring. In addition, there is a notable increase in the number of days above the defined UTCI thresholds for each season. Average annual UTCIs values also show a positive, rising trend, ranging from 0.50 ◦C to 1.33 ◦C. The most significant deviations from the average UTCI values, both seasonal and annual, were recorded
in 2000, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2018.

AB - This paper presents the comparative analysis of the Outdoor Thermal Comfort (OTC) of two urban environments - Bijeljina (Republic of Srpska) and Loznica (Serbia). Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), which represents the heat stress of the human organism caused by meteorological conditions, was used as a measure of thermal comfort in the study. The main goal of the research was to monitor changes in the index values, as well as the frequency of various categories of thermal stress during the hottest summer months (June, July, August), over a ten-year period (2009-2018). For the purpose of determining the UTCI index, mean daily values of meteorological data were used, which were measured at the weather stations Bijeljina (44° 75’ N, 19° 20’ E, 97m) and Loznica (44° 32’ N, 19° 14’ E, 121m). The obtained results show a gradual change in the bioclimatic conditions of these areas, which are generally less favorable during July and August, somewhat more in Bijeljina, then in Loznica.

Trenutno, inicijativa obuhvata 32 grada sa područja Centralne Evrope i Azije, regiona Južnog i Jugo-istočnog Mediterana i Zapadnog Balkana (EBRD Green city region).

abstract = "Urbane sredine zemalja u razvoju nalaze se pred velikim izazovom: kako zadovoljiti potrebe za ekonomskim razvojem uz istovremeno unapređenje kvaliteta životne sredine? Trenutno, inicijativa obuhvata 32 grada sa područja Centralne Evrope i Azije, regiona Južnog i Jugo-istočnog Mediterana i Zapadnog Balkana (EBRD Green city region).

AB - The results obtained through evaluation of the Gradac River Gorge by applying the M-GAM model are presented in this study. The main goal of the research was to observe current state and explore possibilities for geotourism development in this area. By virtue of numerous indicators and sub-indicators, which are categorized either in group of Main or Additional values, this methodology gives us good insight in potentials of geoturism development. In addition, the
methodology has been improved by involving tourists. This approach offers a more objective perspective of the needs of tourists and provides a starting point for further research. Recently, Serbia has been included in UNESCO’s Global Geopark Network due to the Djerdap Gorge being made the country’s first geopark. The Gradac Gorge is equally valuable; it has vast geoheritage,
extraordinary landscapes, lush vegetation, and rich cultural and historical heritage. The geomorphological uniqueness of Gradac is the distinct meandering of the lower part of the river valley. Considering that it’s also a protected area (a Landscape of Outstanding Features), a valuable fishing area, and one of the most important tourist sites in Valjevo Region, it has high potential to become one of Serbia’s future Geoparks. The obtained results show the gorge having exceptional potential for geotourism development. On the other hand, it’s necessary to improve the guide service, the visitor center, and more additional values.

AB - The main purpose of this research is to assess the outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) of Belgrade, in order to investigate how distinct bioclimatic conditions influence on the human organism during the summer in urban environments. Universal Thermal Climate Index, which represents the heat stress of the human organism caused by meteorological conditions, was used as an indicator
of thermal comfort in the study. The main goal was to monitor changes in the index values, as well as the frequency of various categories of thermal stress during the hottest part of the year (months June, July, and August). For this research, mean daily meteorological data from the Meteorological Observatory Belgrade have been collected for the period from 1999 to 2018.
The obtained results show a gradual change in the bioclimatic conditions, which are generally more adverse in July and August. Results also indicate that OTC in Belgrade was considerably reduced, especially in 2007, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2018.

AB - The aim of this paper is to identify the most suitable locations for the construction of Solar Photovoltaic Plants (PVP) on the territory of the City of Belgrade (Republic of Serbia). The city is rich in natural resources and abundant in energy potential. The climatic and spatial characteristics favor the use of solar energy: the average annual solar radiation in Belgrade is 1446.8 kWh/m(2)/year, and the sunshine duration is around 2200 h/year. The analysis covered the area of 3240.7 km(2) (administrative area of Belgrade). Geospatial evaluation was based on three basic criteria: aspect, slope and land use. The Method of elimination in combination with modern methods in geospatial research (GIS) was applied. Based on the mentioned geospatial factors, thematic maps were made and later, their overlapping resulted in obtaining a synthesis Map of the suitability of the terrain for the construction of the PV plants. Of the total considered area, 13.68% were evaluated as suitable for the given purpose.

AB - The objective of this paper is to assess the bioclimatic conditions in Serbia during summer in order to identify biothermal heat hazard. Special emphasis is placed on the bioclimatic index UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index), whose purpose is to evaluate the degree of thermal stress that the human body is exposed to. For this research, mean daily and hourly (07:00 and 14:00 CET) meteorological data from three weather stations (Zlatibor, Novi Sad and Nig) have been collected for the period from 1998 to 2017. In order to identify patterns of biothermal heat stress conditions, the thresholds of the daily UTCI (UTCI >= 38 degrees C, referred to as very strong heat stress, VSHS) at 14:00 CET are compared with the thresholds of daily maximum air temperature (t(max) >= 35 degrees C, referred to as hot days, HDs), which are further termed as heat wave events (HWEs). The findings show that the UTCI heat stress category "very strong heat stress" at 14:00 CET indicates heat waves. The most extreme heat wave events occurred in 2007, 2012, 2015 and 2017. Moreover, three HWEs at Nis that occurred in July 2007 lasted 3, 10 and 4 d. HWEs and very strong heat stress events (VSHSEs) recorded in July 2007 (lasted 10 d each), 2012 (lasted 9 and 12 d) and 2015 (lasted 7 and 10 d) were of the longest duration and are considered to be the indicators of biothermal heat hazard. The daily UTCI14h heat stress becomes more extreme in terms of severity and heat wave duration up to very strong heat stress.

AB - The objective of this paper is the landscape evaluation of Burgenland (federal state of Austria) for the purposes of ecotourism, based on the Quantitative method of diversity (V-Wert method), where the natural elements of landscape (forests, water surfaces, relief, climate) and land use of considered area are taken as the main criteria for the evaluation. The research was carried out using modern mapping methods and GIS software. By applying this method, more or less favorable surfaces are determinated for the given purposes, with the aim of identifying landscape units which have a high degree of convenience for the development of different types of sustainable and ecotourism, where the main motives of tourist activity are natural heritage and natural touristic values, which are making that landscape more exclusive and more attractive among tourists and visitors. The results of geospatial analysis and landscape evaluation of considered spatial entity in this paper could greatly contribute to an additional tourist valorization of Burgenland.

AB - U radu je sprovedena bioklimatska analiza područja Parka prirode “Zlatibor” korišćenjem
Univerzalnog termalnog klimatskog indeksa (UTCI) kojim se predstavlja toplotni stres ljudskog
organizma uzrokovan meteorološkim uslovima. Cilj istraživanja jeste praćenje toka i promena

AB - The bioclimatic analysis of the central area of the city of Nis conducted in this paper is based on the use of the bioclimatic index Humidex, which represents subjective outdoor temperature that one feels in warm and humid environment. The purpose of this research is to observe the index change on a daily basis during the hottest part of the year (June, July, and August) over the period from 1998 to 2017. For the purposes of this analysis, hourly (7:00, 14:00), maximum and mean daily values of meteorological parameters (air temperature and relative humidity) were used, for the period of 20 years (1998-2017), which were measured at Nis weather station (43 degrees 19'N, 21 degrees 53'E, at an altitude of 202 meters). The findings indicate a gradual change in the bioclimatic characteristics of this area during this period, especially over the last decade. After 2007 there has been a decrease in the total number of the days described as "comfortable". However, there has been an increase in the index values in all the other heat stress categories characterized by a higher or lower degree of thermal discomfort. The years 1998, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2016, 2015, and 2017 stand out as adverse years.

AB - The main objective of this paper is to study the outdoor thermal comfort of the central urban zone of Belgrade during summer season in order to examine how different bioclimatic conditions affect human body. For this purposes Humidex, a simple heat index was applied. The research involved analyzing different Humidex values, the so-called "sub-indices" calculated based on hourly (7:00 and 14:00), mean daily and maximum values of meteorological parameters (air temperature and humidity) that were recorded at the meteorological station Belgrade - Vracar.), for the period 1999-2018. Outdoor thermal comfort in Belgrade is generally more adverse in July and August, resulting in most days belonging to the categories of "some discomfort" (30-39) and "great discomfort" (40-44), with periodic recording of the most severe categories of heat stress, as a category "very dangerous"(Humidex>55). Category of "very dangerous" heat stress shows linear increase during July, with positive trend of 0.03 days/10 years. The findings also show that from 1999 to 2018, mean index value gradually rose and values of sub-indices Humidex(14h) and Humidex(Tmax) have exceeded thresholds 40 for great discomfort and 45 for dangerous heat stress more often then in the previous decades.

AB - Austria is a rich country in natural heritage. Its natural landscapes are distinguished by an extraordinary biodiversity, hydrographic, geomorphologic and geologic objects, phenomena and processes, so they are under special regime of planning, managing and protection. Preserved nature, natural resources and regional specifics are one of the most important factors for
prosperity of Austrian province of Styria. High quality and authentic landscapes contribute not
only to development of tourism and agriculture, but also to education about environment protection, energy production from renewable sources of energy, and regional development in total. The focus of this research is Regional park Murauen – the biggest recreational zone in the immediate vicinity of the City of Graz. and one of the most famous landscapes of the whole region. The biggest hydrographic object and dominative element of the landscape is river Murauen with its coastal area rich in quality forest complexes, rare species (the most
important are reptiles and bats), and their habitats.

special emphasis have been given to the heat budget bioclimatic Universal Thermal Climate
Index (UTCI) whose purpose is to evaluate degree of thermal stress that human body is
exposed to. In addition, the summer daily maximum temperatures are analysed in order to
detect increase and frequency of heat waves during twenty years. For this research, daily and
hourly (07h and 14h) meteorological data from 3 weather stations (Mt. Zlatibor, Novi Sad, Nis)
are collected for the period 1998-2017.

AB - Spoj sporta, rekreacije, zabave i avanture u novije vreme sastavni je deo brojnih turističkih
putovanja.
budućeg privrednog i ekonomskog razvoja. Pogranični položaj ovog grada pruža
mogućnosti za razvoj dodatnih, specifičnih oblika turističke ponude. Strategijom razvoja
razvoj sportsko-rekreativnog turizma, posebno u zoni priobalja reke Trebišnjice, brdsko-
planinskom području, šumskim kompleksima i brojnim izletištima.
