AB - This paper describes the findings from our study on the parallel usage of Logisim software tool and remote experiment based on Nexys 2 FPGA hardware platform for learning digital circuits design and computer architecture by students of the first and the second-year of Electrical, Computer and Mechatronics Engineering undergraduate study programs at the Faculty of Technical Science Cacak, University of Kragujevac. For the purpose of comparison of the effectiveness of these two learning tools, a survey was conducted between students who used these tools in learning digital circuits design within the course Foundations in Computer Technics 2 during the winter semester of the academic year 2016-2107. Based on analysis of given results some conclusions were drawn regarding to parallel usage of Logisim software tool and remote experiments based on FPGA hardware platform in learning digital circuits design.

AB - The application of remote lab "Nexys 2 FPGA platform" for learning digital circuits design is described in this paper. The experiment requires installation of Xilinx ISE Design Suite software on students' PCs for designing digital circuits and generating. bit file. There are three ways of designing digital circuits in Xilinx ISE Design Suite software: by programming in VHDL language, by programming in Verilog language or by using schematic diagrams. Working environment of the remote lab consists of Digilent Nexys 2 FPGA platform that is connected with PC. Students connect with the remote lab PC through CEyeClon viewer which also needs to be installed on their PCs together with. Net Framework 4.5. Generated. bit file is loaded through Digilent Adept2 software that is installed on the remote lab PC and used for the FPGA programming. The usage of this experiment enable engineering students to achieve practical experiences and skills for designing and simulating digital circuits using FPGA and to better understand and learn theory of designing digital circuits.

AB - Nowadays, electrical and computers engineers are making their careers in designing smart, real time data acquisitions systems. This paper presents the computer laboratory setup and teaching methodology design to meet the needs in teaching magnetic field distribution. In modern world people spend a lot of time at their workplace. Because we live in age of electronic, usually working environment is surrounded with many different type of electric devices, e.g. telecommunication equipment, power grid, computers, mobile devices, different type of displays etc. Beside exposure to the influence of electromagnetic radiation from natural sources people are exposed to the influence of electromagnetic radiation from mentioned electronic devices from their working environment. The courses named Computer Control System and Remote Control allow the students to apply their previous knowledge of electrical sensors, microcontrollers systems, communications and software engineering to experience magnetic field distribution by designing and implementing large scale individual projects within semester. A flexible hardware platform accompanied by application and teaching methodologies allow quick completion of course exercises.

AB - During the speech, contractions of muscles in the speech apparatus produce myoelectric signals that can be picked up by electrodes, filtered and analyzed. The problem of extraction of speech information from these signals is significant for patients with damaged speech apparatus, such as laryngectomy patients, who could use speech recognition based on myoelectric signal classification to communicate by means of the synthetic speech. In the most previously conducted research, classification is performed on a ten word vocabulary which resulted in a good classification rate. In this paper, a possibility for myoelectric syllable based speech classification is analyzed on a significantly larger vocabulary with novel decision set based classifier which is simple, easy to adapt, convenient for research and similar to the way humans think. In order to have a high quality of recorded myoelectric signals, analysis of the optimal position of electrodes is performed. classification is performed by comparison between syllable combination and whole words. Based on classification rate, words can belong to easy, medium or hard to distinguish group. Results based on generated list of best matching combinations show that decision set analysis of myoelectric signals for speech recognition is a promising novel method.

AB - Image compression research aims at reducing the number of bits needed to represent an image by removing the spatial and spectral redundancies as much as possible. New algorithms for image compression based on wavelets have been developed. These methods have resulted in practical advances such as: lossless and lossy compression, progressive transmission by pixel, accuracy and resolution, region of interest coding and others. The various wavelet based image coding schemes are discussed in this paper. Each of these schemes finds use in different applications owing to their unique characteristics. The methods of lossy compression that we concentrated on are the following: the EZW algorithm, the SPIHT algorithm, the WDR algorithm, and the ASWDR algorithm. These are relatively recent algorithms which achieve some of the lowest errors per compression rate and highest perceptual quality yet reported. After describing these algorithms in detail, we show and discuss the experimental results obtained for three different types of images. We also showed that some important features of image, such as standard deviation and mean pixel intensity values, only slightly change after compression. This fact is very important in medical image compression.
